BBC Sport: FA exploring a 2018 Bid

The BBC Sport website are quoting an English Football Association spokesperson to have said “We will look at many aspects before a feasibility study on a possible bid for 2018 is commissioned.”

The article goes on to say that the FA will consider its options at a board, this Wednesday October 31st. It is thought that the FA have some reservations about making a bid, after the spent £4m on the unsuccessful bid for the 2006 World Cup Finals which eventually went to Germany.

FA to issue statement of intent for 2018?

The BBC report that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown & the Government have already supported a bid and that they want the Football Association to issue a statement of their intention to bid for the event.

England last hosted the World Finals in 1966 (the only time they have done so), Fifa President Sepp Blatter has said that the tournaments return to the country which invented the game is long overdue.
