Blatter backs Spain/Portugal joint bid
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has thanked the presidents of the Spanish and Portuguese Football Federations after they presented their joint bid for the 2018 World Cup.
Angel Maria Villar and Gilberto Madail outlined their proposal during a 45 minute interview with BlatterĀ at FIFA headquarters in Zurich.

Blatter said: “Two countries with a huge football tradition have visited FIFA in order to present a project that unites them by hosting a World Cup. What’s more, Spain and Portugal are two countries with great organisational experience. Spain organised the first World Cup with 24 countries in 1982 and Portugal hosted the European Championships in 2004.”
The two countries will have to compete with another european joint bid in the shape of Holland/Belgium whilst England, Russia, USA, Australia, Indonesia and Japan will provide stiff opposition.

I think the headline is somewhat strange.
Blatter has ‘thanked them for submitting a bid’. He’s been generally polite and Presidential.
It would be most improper for him to back ANY bid. Ours or anyone else’s.
At this stage, at least…..
