Blatter boosts England bid with Sheffield role
FIFA President Sepp Blatter has given England’s ailing bid a timely boost with the news that he is to become Sheffield FC’s honorary president.
This coup from the World’s oldest club should help to drive home the bid message that England is the spiritual home of football. The news is also set to boost Sheffield’s bid to become a host city for 2018.
After several years without a home, Sheffield FC are keen to move back to the city centre and create a stadium that will commemorate Sheffield’s role in the creation of the modern game.

Richard Tims, the Sheffield FC chairman, will be at Fifa headquarters in Zurich today to meet Blatter and settle the details of the new role as head of a foundation to help to continue the transformation of Sheffield.
The city will find out in December 2009 if they have been successful in applying to be a host city should England win the rights to host the tournament in 2018.
