Brazil have been confirmed as the only nation to reach the bidding stage for the 2014 World Cup, Colombia were in the running for the tournament until they dropped out last week, so Brazil are now clear favourites to host the tournament.

It isn’t a forgone conclusion as the South American nation must still provide sufficient government guarantees and meet the necessary technical requirements for hosting a World Cup Finals.

Under the rotation rules currently put in place for the World Cup Finals by FIFA it will be a South American country that hosts in 2014, but FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said that the finals could be moved if Brazil failed to offer a strong enough bid.

Brazil’s formal bid will be in before the end of July and FIFA’s executive committee will make a final decision in November 2007.
