England bid backed by Pele
Brazilian legend Pele thinks England has a great case to host the 2018 World Cup Finals. He was in England for Sheffield FC’s 150th anniversary fixture against Inter Milan, marking the birthday of the world’s oldest club. Inter Milan won the celebration match 5-2 and afterward’s Pele said:
“England is always prepared for a World Cup..England have proved already they have good stadiums and no need to build new stadiums, so no doubt.”
He continued to say that the recent world cups in Germany, France & Italy since 1990 could hinder an English bid as:
“People think they are almost the same but they don’t understand that it is a completely different country….But I think 12 years (from last year’s tournament in Germany) is long enough and England could have the World Cup.”
In 1966 when England last hosted the tournament, Pele featured for Brazil and England won the tournament on home soil, Pele did win the World Cup on three occassions in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
