England present bid to Asian FIFA members

The English 2018 World Cup bid team received a much needed boost recently at they were invited to make a presentation to the Asian confederation’s executive committee members.

Following a week of turmoil with the resignation of FA CEO Ian Watmore, England were the only nation involved in the bidding process who were able to present their case to four of the key voters in the 2018 and 2022 hosting process.

The bid presentation was made by the bid’s international president David Dein along with bid CEO Andy Anson and ambassador David Ginola.

During the presentation, they are expected to underline the global potential of an England World Cup and the additional benefits to Asia that would come from the Football Association’s international development programme.

Under fire bid leader Lord Triesman was not present at the meeting although he did comment on the situation with outgoing FA CEO Ian Watmore.

He said: “”I don’t think this will affect the bid. Ian wasn’t in day to day involvement with the bid, though his advice was sought from time to time. It was always good advice.”
