England told to “improve” 2018 bid
England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup has been hit by FIFA Vice President Jack Warner and South Africa 2010 bid leader Danny Jordaan.
Warner, who is also president of the CONCACAF region, was thought to have been a supporters of England’s bid. However, he has stated that the FA needs to make more of the country’s footballing icons such as David Beckham.

Warner said: “The best bid will have my vote, nothing gives you the right, you have to earn it. You’re earning it but not fast enough, creeping along when time passes quickly and you have to be running along.”
Danny Jordaan added: “It’s time for a review. They should boost the media profile and understanding of their case. They must begin to line up their icons to help strengthen the character of the bid.”
However, FA chairman Lord Triesman, who is also the chairman of England’s bid, rejected the concerns.
Triesman said: “Jack has been very positive and very willing to give advice. His initial advice was not to do what we did in 2006. It was always going to be a campaign where we would move on to a higher profile. He’s making a point that we need to get to that point. It’s always worth hearing Jack’s advice.”
