England may host 2010 Finals
With plans to host the 2010 World Cup supposedly under threat by reported delays in construction of the stadiums the English FA have informed FIFA that they are ready to host the tournament in the event that they are needed.
England as World Cup Alternative
President of FIFA Sepp Blatter had already said England could be a possible alternative as a host, but the English FA say as yet they have not discussed the opportunity with football’s world body.
An FA spokesman said:
“We understand South Africa remain on course to host the 2010 World Cup, and there have been no discussions with FIFA regarding England possibly hosting the tournament…however, should there be requirements for any contingency planning. We believe that England has some of the finest stadia in the world and the football infrastructure which could host the 2010 World Cup at short notice, if asked to by FIFA.”

The FA is more than willing to make itself available to host the 2010 event as they feel that Blatter does not favour a European hosting bid for 2018 under the rotation policy. The FA don’t seem to think that hosting the 2010 tournament would affect a bid for the 2018 finals, but it would be unprecedented for a nation to host the tournament two times in eight years.
FIFA are confident that South Africa will be ready, but President Blatter believes alternative arrangements should be in order, in the unlikely event of problems.
Talking on the BBC’s Inside Sport programme about whether England or Australia could be used if the South African arrangements failed, he said:
“Yes, but there are other countries ready to organise tomorrow morning or in two days, or two months, a World Cup..the United States of America, and Mexico, they can do it. Japan, they can do it. They have enough stadia. You say England can do it, and I am sure. Spain, they can do it. There is a lot of countries, but they don’t need to be ready.”
The English FA is willing to make itself available in an emergency since does not favour a European bid for the 2018 tournament.

England isn’t ready to host a World Cup in 2010. I’d prefer a further 8 years to get venues upto scratch. South Africa, on the other hand, will have all it’s stadia ready in 2009.
What are you talking about Alex? South Africa won’t be ready by 2019 let alone 2009. England could host the cup now, there are plenty of world class stadiums all across the country with more and more being built every year. South Africa 2010 will be a disaster mark my words.
I hope South Africa is ready. I’m not sure England should host the world cup in 2010, the last one was in Europe and it wouldn’t be fair for it to be in the same continent twice on the run.
I would be happy for it to go to South Africa, it’s the first time it will be held in the african continent which is a good thing.
If it did go to England, what would happen? Those twats who would be in charge would probably fuck it up like they are fucking up the 2012 Olympics. They’d pay some Americans 400,000 pounds to design an ugly fucking logo and then try to convince everybody that it is “beautiful and will represent the people” blah blah blah.
Also those bastard americans who “own” Liverpool FC want to destroy Anfield and replace it with a sickeningly ugly stadium. God i hope that if it is built it will be destroyed and replaced by a beautiful stadium by the time england does host the world cup.
Why is it that South America and North America are being classed as one continent? Is it because there are only 3 countries in North America that are capable of hosting the tournament. (Really only 2 – who wants the world cup to go to Canada? Nobody!)
England is inevitably going to host the world cup in the near future. My guess is either 2022 or 2026 (If they get rid of the rotation system.)
