England’s 2018 Hopes set to receive boost

BBC Sport are reporting that when FIFA meet in two weeks, in Zurich, they will change the rules on their rotation policy meaning that only the last two continents which hosted the tournament would be ruled out of the bidding process. This would be good news for a 2018 England bid as the current rotation policy would mean England could not bid for 2018, as the tournament was last held in Europe in 2006 (in Germany) and other continents would be due a turn first.

Mihir Bose BBC Sport’s editor said on their website:

“Under the new proposal, it rules out Africa which stages 2010 and South America which will stage 2014. But the Football Association are not sure they want to bid for it yet.”

“Any country from Europe, Asia or Oceania could theoretically make a bid.”
