FA Search For 2018 Figurehead
The FA has launched a search for someone to head their 2018 World Cup bid campaign.
Headhunters will scour England’s footballing community for suitable people to become the bid figurehead. The selected candidate will head a team of administrators, players and other representatives.
Names such as Gary Lineker, Peter Kenyon and David Gill have already been rumoured, while David Beckham is understood to have expressed desire to become involved. Beckham’s candidacy is bolstered by his part in the successful London 2012 Olympic bid.
The plan comes from a recent, 63-page, FA report, which establishes a battle plan fro the bid.The report also confirmed the establishment of an auxilliary company to be in charge of the bid as a whole. Lord Triesman will sit on the executive board of the company, as well as head an intermin management group all designed to create the best bid possible, to bring the greatest competition in football, back to England for the first time in over half a century.

Other members expected to take a place on the company’s board, are Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe and Gordon Brown’s World Cup Ambassador, Richard Caborn.
The report also suggests that the theme of the bid should emphasise the benefits the competition would bring, both to the development of football worldwide.
