FA tells 2018 advisers to rebid

The English Football Association has recently caused a stir in relation to the structure for the 2018 World Cup bid. The bid team/company still hasn’t been verified.

The European Consultancy Network (ECN) thought they were contracted for the whole of the English bid for the 2018 World Cup but according to the FA they were wrong and the contract was only for the 1st 6 months of the campaign.

The ECN lead by former FIFA insiders Peter Hargitay and Markus Siegler are rightly furious about the situation. The FA may now lose the ECN to rivals in the hunt to host the 2018 World Cup.

The FA decided that after the preparation stage of the bid had finished they would reopen the tender role. The head of the FA says that he wants the entire bid to be open and transparent as possible but wouldn’t it be smarter to leave it in the hands of 1 tender?

Both the FA and ECN are not talking about the mishap to the public both refusing to comment on the situation.

A formal bid document has to be submitted in autumn 2010 with FIFA visiting prospective hosts in early 2011. The vote for the tournament host will be held in 2011.
