Forest Green set to be part of Bristol bid

Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers could be set to host international players if England win the rights to the 2018 World Cup.

Rovers have been nominated for a public training venue and media centre as part of Bristol’s bid to become a host city during the tournament.

A statement on the club’s website read: “To be selected means ticking many of the boxes which are required by Fifa, but every journey must start somewhere. We met to finalise what the club could offer one of the competing national teams in relation to staging public training sessions and the attendant media involvement.

The move is part of the criteria which states that each of the 16 applicant cities have to put together a series of “cluster groups”, to include accommodation details, training and media facilities.

Bristol has included five cluster groups in its bid, which will be presented to the English bid team in late November before a decision on which 12 cities will be nominated as hosts takes place on the 14th December.
