Leeds host bid inspected by 2018 England team
Today Leeds were visited by the 2018 England delegation, to check out the city’s suitability as a World Cup venue. Millennium Square featured giant inflatables, mascots and a festival of football atmosphere, as buses with Back the Bid Leeds branding hit the streets of Leeds.
The 2018 England team checked out potential fan fest parks, including Roundhay Park, where games would be shown on giant TV screens for those who don’t have game tickets.

Prior to the visit Leeds City Council leader, Richard Brett said “I’m confident the delegates will be impressed and return to London convinced that we would make a great host city.”
If the tournament does come to England and Leeds are succesful in becoming a host city, Leeds United’s Elland Road ground would host the fixtures, United as well as Marketing Leeds and Leeds City Council are spearheading the bid. Prior to the visit Chief Executive of Leeds United Shaun Harvey said “We’ve been working hard over the past few months and we are looking forward to welcoming the England 2018 delegation.”
