London United bid team consider Olympic Stadium
The London United World Cup bid team have presented the Olympic Stadium as one of their four stadiums to be considered for use should England receive the 2018 World Cup.
All the potential host cities have been showcasing their facilities should they be chosen as one of the cities to stage games during the tournament. Alongside the Olympic Stadium, London has also put forward Wembley, the Emirates stadium and Tottenham’s proposed new arena.

It has been argued that there would be practical reasons to use the new 2012 stadium. The Olympic Park in Stratford would be a fantastic vocal point for supporters to gather and watch matches on giant television screens whilst the stadium itself would have no issues with having a running track around the outside of the pitch.
However. Tessa Jowell, the minister for the Olympics and London, is concerned about the financial implications that retaining the original capacity of the stadium instead of downgrading it would have.
The proposal may also rest on the success of England winning the rights to the 2017 or 2019 World Athletics Championships meaning that the stadium would be likely to retain it’s 80,000 capacity.
Simon Greenberg, chairman of London United, said: “The Olympic stadium is being put forward as a potential match venue for 2018/22. This is subject to a final decision to be made about its capacity but that decision is likely to post date our final proposal.
