Nottingham hopeful over bid campaign

Outside candidates Nottingham are remaining hopeful over winning the rights to become a host city for England’s 2018 World Cup bid.

The city, who have undergone much controversy with their plans for a new stadium in Nottingham, has presented their proposal with ex Forest midfielder Steve Hodge as one of the major names representing them at Wembley stadium.

The Nottingham campaign includes a World Cup Park alongside the River Trent, Fan Fest sites in different prominent areas of the city and, of course, the proposed new green arena in Gamston which would also become the new home of Nottingham Forest.

Coun Jon Collins, leader of the city council, who is also in the bid team, said: “There are so many different reasons why Nottingham would make the perfect World Cup Host City for England in 2018. It’s a city people the world over recognise and want to come to because of the enduring legend of Robin Hood and our world class arts, culture and entertainment offer.”

He added: “We’ve got a football heritage that’s second to none, thanks to Brian Clough and his Europe-conquering Forest sides of the 70s and 80s and Notts County, the oldest professional league club in the world. We will ensure that hosting the World Cup leaves a lasting legacy for local people and for football and that the massive boost to the local economy it will bring benefits to local people and businesses, helping the continued regeneration of Nottingham. We will use the World Cup to increase participation in football at all levels and promote diversity in the game.”

It would be bad for the England bid if Nottingham isn’t included.
The city has too much to offer to be overlooked.

The more I read about Nottingham’s actual plans the more I’m sold on the idea. I had initial concerns over that fact that our cracking City Ground stadium (unique, and one of the true genuine football stadiums in Britain)would be lost forever. I think this fact will not be lost upon the new stadium design, respect for our heritage is massively important to this bid. make it so………..
