Nottingham stadium opponents to continue protest

The controversial decision to choose Nottingham as one of the FA’s host cities for the 2018 World Cup bid looks set to continue as opponents of the city’s new proposed stadium vowed to continue their campaign.

The project to create Nottingham Forest stadium in Gamston, which would also contain a new national centre for women’s football and 4,500 newly built houses, has been met with stiff opposition from local protestors.

They believe that the construction would lead to a loss of green land and harm the quality of life of local residents. The protestors have maintained that the FA’s decision to include them as a host city would not stop their campaign.

Nottingham 1

Simon Robinson, chairman of the Rushcliffe Greenfields campaign group, said: “We are very disappointed in the FA in that they described Nottingham’s bid as low risk when currently it does not have planning permission or funding in place to execute the stadium and houses. We are absolutely determined to ensure that the residents’ voices are heard and that we do stop the stadium and housing development.”

Robinson said a petition with 3,000 signatures was submitted to the FA before the bid deadline last month and 4,500 leaflets have been delivered to homes across the Borough.

He added: ”Now we will put pressure on Rushcliffe Borough Council to ensure the planning process is rejected on the grounds that it’s not a sustainable or environmentally friendly project.”

Can’t these sad bastards just leave it alone?
Hopefully the old gits who don’t like development will be dead by 2018…

NO NO NO to a new football stadium being built at/near Gamston. The noise of the rowdy football fans yelling when a goal is scored will be dreadful for the people living nearby and the traffic…!!!! AND is it not green belt?? DEFINATELY NO!

Gamston is Nottingham’s only open area. It’s a stupid place to build a stadium when there are existing deprived areas in Nottingham which need regeneration like Radford!!!!!!!!!!! Hope the bid fails if its going to ruin the city.

I don’t know any one (Forest fan or not) who wants this new stadium, especially one not even in Nottingham. It’s virtually unbelievable.
