Nottingham World Cup project moves forward
Nottingham’s plans to be a host city for the 2018 World Cup have taken a significant step forward as Rushcliffe councillors reluctantly proposed the Gamston site for development.
The planned 45,000 capacity stadium, which is set to be the home of Nottingham Forest, is due to be built on land at Gamston alongside a scheme that includes 4,000 new houses.

Originally there were problems with the local councillors refusing to back Nottingham’s 2018 bid. Even so, the councillors have now conceded that they have a legal responsibility to put the sites forward for consultation despite not fully supporting the project.
Neil Clarke, the Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, said: “This isn’t a decision to approve a site, but merely consultation, in that we’re being forced into it. We don’t agree with the horrendous allocation of housing that’s been forced upon us and we will continue to oppose it.”
A final decision will be made in 2011 on whether or not the stadium will be built.

The people of nottingham should come and show there support for the new stadium. And stand up to kay cutts the unelected leader of the county council. This is a wonderful unique oppotunity for nottingham. And i can’t understand why anyone on nottinghams side would oppose it.
nottingham needs a top stadium and so do forest you also have to remember 2018 is a long way away (future planning)
would love to know the date of this decition is it the latest? forest/nottingham needs a top new stadium would like to know what it looks like though from the inside.to get a good atmosphere the lower tear needs to be big and go from their always good to have a pile of people on the same level as the players, rather than a few on the bottom and the bulk at the top
new stadium wise just a thought what happens if we dont get chosen as a host city or england doesent get chosen?
The people of nottingham should learn to spell.
