Nottinghamshire council hits out at host city proposal

Nottinghamshire County council have hit out at plans to build the city’s new 45,000 seater stadium on land at Gamston.

Kay Cutts, the conservative leader of Nottinghamshire county council, has hit out at Nottingham City council for trying to force them to adopt the scheme by making it public through the media.

However, Nottinghamshire County council have made it clear that they will only support the city’s world cup host bid if they focus it on Nottingham Forest’s City Ground which previously hosted matches at Euro 96.

Cutts said: “We’ve made it very clear that we would only support a bid on the existing Forest site. Our land at Gamsten is not for sale. We don’t believe that changing the location of our premier ground is a good move – it’s bad for football, bad for business, bad for local people and risks scuppering our bid to be a World Cup city.”

Nottingham bid officials claim they could proceed without the County Council, even though the authority has said it will not sell its land on the site. However, the Gamston land is predominantly owned by Nottingham City Council which is a postive.

Even so, the FA is unlikely to be willing to put forward a bid featuring Nottingham if they fear it could turn into a major dispute that could unnecessary bad publicity for them in the build-up to the final vote in December.

The FA would be crazy to opt for Nottingham with such uncertainty around where the stadium will be built.

As the article says, they won’t want any dispute whatsoever with any of the proposed new grounds as it would impact negatively on England’s overall bid.

As a neutral, I’d have to opt for Derby to be the East Midland’s host city. It’s got a nice stadium with fantastic facilities. It’s easily accessible and I read somewhere that 80% of the country’s population are within a two hour drive!

The stadium will be built, the county council only own a small amount of the land proposed. They can’t stop progress, and kay cutts needs to be hanged.

An old hag, and a bunch of hillbillies, arent getting in the way of progress, I don’t care if it blocks their view of a field.
Derby’s stadium is in the middle of a retail park, and poorly accessible, at least if this stadiums built, there will be tram and GOOD bus links.

Shame on Kay Cutts. I’m sick of these old people stuck in the past wanting to prevent modern progress. Like those silly old people trying to stop Nottingham Train station from being redeveloped because “it will ruin its victorian architecture”! Rediculous, its 2009 not 1869! Kay Cutts should be sacked!

ALL FOREST FANS SHOULD BACK KAY CUTTS AND KEEP THE CITY GROUND. WE DO NOT NEED A NEW STADIUM THAT WILL BE HALF FULL, MILES FROM ANYWHERE WITH POOR TRANSPORT LINKS AND DEVOID OF ANY ATMOSPHERE. NFFC = CITY GROUND = HOME
