Olympic Stadium to be considered for 2018

The 2012 Olympic Stadium has been put forward as a possible football venue for the potential 2018 World Cup in London.

The venue is eligable to be put forward as one of ten host venues for the Football Association’s 2018 and 2022 bids despite concerns that the running track around the outside makes it unsuitable for football.

Olympic Stadium

Lord Sebastian Coe, Bid leader for the 2012 Olympics, said: “The last three Champions League finals have been played in these sort of stadiums and the last World Cup final was played in Berlin where the World Athletics Championships will be in August. I see no reason why the Olympic Stadium should not be used and the evaluation team are working on this now.”
