Plymouth confident with World Cup city bid

Plymouth’s World Cup director has insisted that his team has presented a compelling case to become one of England’s host cities if they win the rights to the 2018 tournament.

Keith Todd led the Plymouth campaign, which included Olympic diver Tom Daley and Plymouth and New Zealand striker Rory Fallen, to Wembley where they handed over their submission to the England bid team.

To ensure the bid was memorable and unique from the opposing cities, a hot air balloon was inflated containing Plymouth’s slogan amid the backdrop of the national stadium.

Following the handover ceremony, Keith Todd said: “It’s magical that we have been able to deliver our stunning bid here at Wembley. We have now gone through the delivery of the bid, which I have to say is just compelling. It’s on the table now and we are very proud of our bid and what we have produced in such a short period of time. We are not arrogant in any way, but we are certainly confident. We know the quality of this bid and as I have said many times, our location is one to die for. The legacy that will also be left with the World Cup being staged in the Westcountry, both economically and socially, is going to be phenomenal.”

Plymouth is one of 15 cities hoping to get the nod from the England bid team. They will find out their fate on December 16th 2009.
