Qatar promise heat combating technology
Qatar’s bid for the 2022 World Cup will not be hampered by the searing middle eastern heat according to the nation’s bid chief.
Temperatures can easily top 40 degrees Celcius during the World Cup period but bid officials have stated that there will be new heat confounding technologies in place by 2012. However, CEO Hassan Al Thawadi would not be drawn on the exact details of the future plans.
Al Thawadi said: “It will be hot, but not too hot. We are developing technology which will help with the June and July heat and conditions.”

The CEO also stated why Qatar had chosen to focus on the 2022 tournament. He said: “We made an assessment of when we could host a truly historic World Cup. In 2018 we would be ready to stage a very successful World Cup but by ’22 we can guarantee something truly historic – every year counts.”
Both the 2018 and 2022 World Cup host nations will be selected by the sport’s global governing body FIFA in December 2010. However, for either Qatar to stand a chance of hosting 2022 they must hope an Asian nation does not win the rights to the 2018 tournament as FIFA regulations demand regional rotation.
