Quotes on a 2018 Bid
Below are a collection of quotes in the press connected to the possibility of a bid from England to host the World Cup in 2018.
FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick:

“If the 2018 World Cup comes to Europe we will be giving very serious consideration to making a bid”. “A World Cup in England would be a fantastic event…”
Gordon Brown, Chancellor of the Exchequer:

“By 2018, it will be more than 50 years since England hosted the World Cup, and millions of fans will agree it is time to host it again, in the best stadiums and in front of the most passionate supporters in Europe..”
Sports Minister Richard Caborn:

“As Sports Minister I’d be disappointed if we didn’t (bid) because I’d be at the forefront of pushing it,” “You look at places like the Emirates Stadium and football grounds up and down the country and we have some of the best stadia in the world.”
Sepp Blatter, FIFA President:

“I would say yes, they should bid – it is the homeland of football.”"They are building stadia and other facilities for the Olympics, Wembley is almost finished and maybe they would be used for a World Cup bid.”
David Will, FIFA vice-president:

“I would think England would have a very strong bid.”
Martin Peters, World Cup winner with England in 1966:

“I know from the ’66 boys we feel it’s long, long overdue and we’ll be supporting the bid as much as we can.”
Sir Geoff Hurst, World Cup winner with England in 1966:

“I think it’s absolutely magnificent news that we’re looking at the World Cup in 2018″, “I’m thrilled to bits about it.”

i think it awsome
What about the quotes from Beckenbauer?
Franz Beckenbauer, who led Germany’s successful bid for the 2006 World Cup and a member of FIFA’s Executive Committee, has twice backed an English bid to host the World Cup, in January 2007, and July 2007, when he said “In my opinion, there is only one very serious candidate and it is England. I think there is not really a problem to pick a host of the 2018 World Cup.”
It would be amazing to host the 2018 world cup in the most famous football country in the world were the worlds best have graced playing in the amazing stadiums like Old Trafford.
Forget quotes from the Germans et al.
We must all of us ensure that if we win the bid then at least England MUST play away from Wembley at some stage……cannot have London as the ‘home ground’ any more. Final , yes , but make sure the NATIONAL TEAM GOES NATIONWIDE.
we dont see why in a reccession you should spend that amount of money on football, its pointless
“we dont see why in a reccession you should spend that amount of money on football, its pointless”
Hosting the FIFA World Cup makes money. That’s a fact. So, it’s not pointless at all. Why else would the UK Government back the bid so openly?
Hosting an Olympics is the dangerous one that tends to lose money. It’s always a gamble and one that London 2012 will have to fight very hard to see pay off.
I agree with Chris,
The FIFA World Cup generates millions of pounds for the host nation. It gives the government chance to spend on infrastructure for future public transport as we already have many quality stadia which will be bigger and better by 2018.
I went to South Africa for 2010 and the travel was poorly organised and expensive for everyone. Staging the competition in England would beneift every fan financially once they have arrived in England as moving between cities would be easy.
If we don’t win I’ll be very disappointed
I am brazilian and I am sure the world cup will be held in England. England has the strucutre, the fans and all possible conditions to sponsor the best world cup ever. Best of all, I am already saving to spend a month in that lovely country !!!!!!!!!!!!
