Sheffield United to take legal action over 2018 snub

Sheffield United have decided to take legal action over the decision to award Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough stadium ahead of their own Bramall Lane ground.

The case rests on the claim from United that Wednesday received preferential treatment from Sheffield County Council over proposed renevenations to Hillsborough stadium. They believe that the council fast tracked Wednesday’s plans whilst they had to go through the normal procedure.

Trevor Birch, United chief executive, said: “We are delighted to see that the city has been chosen to go forward to the next stage. However it is disappointing that our stadium, with its obvious benefits and current planned facilities, has not been recognised by the FA.”

Wednesday’s extra room for fan zones and other events outside of the ground won them the FA’s vote when the decision was made back in December 2009. United are planning to take the decision to the ombudsman being seeking a judical review, if necessary.

I think sheffield United are been unproffessional and selfish. With two teams due to be dropped from the list it will make an easy decision for the FA to pick Sheffield and will cost the local ecomony millions. If I was Sheffield united fan I will find the actions of the club
; being that of a spoilt child. I would also find disgracefull and embarrising. The only reason they are doing this is to spite Sheffield Wednesday their fans and the clubs revival. If they go adhead with the spoilt child Antics sheffield can kiss goodbye to been a host city. Also could prove bramall lane the club an unattractive and impossible venue to consider in the future. Why can’t they be gracefull in defeat and take on the chin and show a united front to show case Sheffield and be behind Sheffield wedneday to provide a successfull and wonderfull experience for fans and visitors. Sheffield Wednesday would be behind them if they were succesfull with they bid

In the last few years, Sheffield United have been THE club to hate above all others. They ought to change their nickname to “The Litigants”. It is no longer a case of “stand up if you hate Man U”. They bullied a weak West Ham board of directors into submission in the Carlos Tevez case. Manchester United had the same arrangement with Carlos Tevez and Chelsea did not sue Manchester United for their failure to win honours. It has subsequently been proved by their failure to regain Premiership status, that they were not good enough to stay up anyway. With the likes of captain Chris Morgan they have a player who does not think twice about trying to end a player’s career-look at Iain Hume’s injury as an example.

Sheffield Wednesday now remain the only professional football club in Sheffield, along with the temporary residence of Rotherham United.

I am surprised Sheffield United have not yet taken Stoke City to court for the number of loan players Stoke used in winning promotion in preventing their own team from going up-perhaps I am giving them ideas.

Football is never the winner. The true winners are the lawyers. It is not West Ham as a club who will have to foot the Sheffield United demands-it is the fans who are having to pay extortionate, unaffordable ticket prices.

Same old Sheffield United! Bitter and jealous that it hasn’t gone their way!
