Sheffield Wednesday to revamp Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday has announced that their Hillsborough stadium is to undergo a £22 million pound redevelopment.

The revamp includes increasing the ground’s capacity from 39,000 to 45,000 which will allow it to be chosen as a World Cup designated ground. The club has said it hoped that Hillsborough would be chosen by the FA as a host for the 2018 World Cup should England win the rights to stage it.

Other plans include a new roof structure for the Kop and West stands and an extension of the North Stand to create an education facility and 17 new executive boxes.

Lee Strafford, Club Chairman, said: “All fans would agree that Hillsborough is in need of investment and we are happy to present plans that will improve the fan experience, boost the club’s revenue capabilities and also strengthen our ties with the local community.”

He also added: “We’ve got to make the investment to bring the stadium up to 21st century spec that will underpin how we invest in the football budget in the mid to long term.”

I’m glad about this. Best ground in Sheffield this. Glad to see they are changing the awful Leppings Lane End. They should have done this 20 years ago.

sheffield is the home of football and hillsborough is the best stadium.

football is part of englands history, and this ground has baggs of it.

hillsborough park is a great place to put a screen up for fans without tickets.

good transpot links to hillsborough with the trams and buses.

To all the bitter blunt fans…You to a superior club and ground. If we was not picked to host world cup matches we would feel like you. It would be better if bramall lane was picked aswell but it wasn’t so live with it. Were going down this season anyway!!!!!!!!

Thank you from the blue side of our fantastic steel city
