Spain/Portugal bid set for FIFA visit
Spain and Portugal will present their joint bid for the World Cup to FIFA president Sepp Blatter at a meeting in Zurich next week.
Gilberto Madaíl, president of the Portuguese Football Association, and Angel Villar, president of the Spanish Football Federation, will hold talks with Blatter about the bid when they visit FIFA headquarters on October 20th 2009.

The Spain/Portugal bid has yet to gain any real momentum but with the Blatter meeting and former Portuguese winger Luis Figo backing the bid, the low key campaign could yet prove to be the dark horse in the run up to the December 2010 vote.
Figo has said that he is “convinced” FIFA will reach a “positive” decision on their joint candidacy. He said the “most important” factors of the bid are “the fans and the passion of our people for football.”
He added: “We have the infrastructure, food, hotels, tourism, climate. All this makes us a strong candidate to host the 2018 finals.”
