Spain/Portugal impress with bid presentation
Spain and Portugal recently impressed when presenting their joint bid for the 2018 World Cup at a venue in Cape Town, South Africa before the 2010 World Cup draw.
Fernando Hierro, sporting director of the Spanish Football Federation, presented an entertaining video detailing all of their potential host venues along with clips of some of the fine international footballers that the country has to offer.
The two countries are leading a 12 stadium project with eight of the grounds scheduled to be in Spain with the other four due to be in Portugal. At present, the opening match would be held in Lisbon with the final staged in Madrid.

Gilberto Madai, President of the Portuguese Federation, said: “The Iberian bid is very strong because it’s backed by the strength of Spanish football, the strength and prestige of Portuguese football and our organisation experience as demonstrated in the Euro 2004 and the 1982 World Cup.”
Angel Maria Villar, member of the Spanish Football Federation, added: “Both Spain and Portugal are at the top level. We can provide the best possible service to football with experienced personnel.”
If the 2018 bid falls through, Spain are still eligable to put themselves forward for the 2022 tournament as long as a european nation are not successful in winning the rights to the 2018 tournament. The final decision will be made in December 2010.
