USA plan 2018 Bid

It has emerged that the USA is preparing a bid to host the 2018 World Cup and will also offer to provide a backup in 2014 if a South American country proves unable to stage the event.

“Obviously FIFA knows what we’re capable of and, if something else changed, we would be open to any other possibilities,” U.S. Soccer Federation, president Sunil Gulati said in the Washington Post. “We’ve got some history and a track record.”

America’s 2018 Bid Plans

At this weekend’s annual meeting of the U.S. Soccer Federation, Gulati says an organising committee will be formed. Gulati added that Fifa were “very open” to a US bid while the governing body for North and Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf), were “very positive” about the idea.

The finals were last hosted in America in 1994, when the largest average game attendance record of 68,991 was set.

The best situation would be England and the USA both hosting it soon, England in 2018 and the states as a replacement in 2010 or 2014, since all the stadiums are already set. In fact by 2010 pretty much all the ‘94 stadia will be upgraded or replaced.

If the rotation is kept then the future sites will be:

    2010- South Africa (Africa)
    2014- Brazil (S. America)
    2018- USA (N. America)
    2022- Australia (Asia)
    2026- England (Europe)

I doubt the rotation will be kept but those are the most likely choices if it is.

As amazing as the World Cup was in 1994, a world cup in America in the next 10-15 years would be infinitely better. The US has had a rebirth in stadium building. Many of the new NFL stadiums are all natural grass and built wide enough to host international football matches. Many of the top european teams have conducted summer tours to new NFL stadiums and have been a huge hit.

Major cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Detroit Houston, Dallas, Phoenix Seattle, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Washington DC already have brand new stadiums with capacities between 65 and 90 thousand seats. New York will have a brand new stadium to replace Giants Stadium and LA still has two stadium with over 90,000 seats.

What I’m saying is this, the stadiums are bigger, better, and more suited for international football and soccer is much more popular now in the US than it was 1994. Fact is, it would be the best world cup ever.

Please god do not hold it in the US. It only held the world cup 3 tournaments ago.

Although to see Diana Ross miss that goal again would be priceless

Why should the World Cup go to a country that believes football is a game for fairies? They might have nice stadia but so does England! It is our national game and the atmosphere would be fantastic.
