Why Hull is a great Host City Choice

I feel Hull is a great choice it has great transport links for starters. The port linking it with Europe through Holland and Belgium and Humberside airport linked to destinations across Europe, whilst the train provides access from London, Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester Those cities also have their own international terminals, able to bring in fans from around the world to Hull.

Great buses link with the East Coast so supporting fans can visit the coast and stagecoach go towards Leeds as well linking it with other host cities and airport cities. The road system means in under a hour you can be in Leeds, or the East coast. In three hours you can be in Manchester and in four you’ll  be in London. So it is very easy for fans from across the world to get to Hull.

The Deep in Hull is a place for fans to vistit and have fun with great nightlife and pubs and bars around the city means Hull is great for traveling fans. The fans can also go to the east coast in Bridlington, Filey, Scarbrough, Withby and others.

The train station in Hull is only 5 minutes walk from the city centre and there are also plans to build a small station next to the ground. The ground itself has a large parking area and a park and ride system in place. The ground also has very good atmosphere and the build means the noise is even louder than you would expect from a stadium of it’s size. The humberside police are one of the best in the country and they is very rarely and trouble in the stadium.

Hull World Cup Fanzone

Hull City Fans

There is already an area for a Fanzone at the stadium, as it is built in a park and Hull City often have their own fan park in the park. There is also a big screen TV in the city centre near by the great shops Hull has to offer in The Pricess Quay near The Deep and opposite a Holiday Inn Express. More shopping can be found at the modern St Stephens shopping centre, whilst Prospect centre has a good variety of shops too.

There are plenty of hotels in the area and campsites in Burton Constable Park, Sand Le Mere and Patrington Haven Leisure Park. Hull is a very good choice to be a host city for the World Cup and the whole city is excited at the prospect.

Hull has a fantastic array of cultural pursuits.

We have the Ferens art gallery, Streetlife, Hull & East Riding and the maritime museums, the artic corsair, the Spurn lightship, The home of William Wilberforce and the Hands on History museum.

We have the Deep (the most successful millennium visitor destination in the country with more visitors than the Eden Centre), the KC,the critically acclaimed and internationally renowned Hull Truck theatre company, Hull City Hall, Hull New Theatre and the Guildhall art collection.

We have the Adelphi, the Welly and the Albemarle Music centre. We have the Freedom festival, the maritime festival, the Jazz festival, the food festival, the Comedy festival, the beer festival and the Humber mouth literature festival. Glimmer: The Hull International Short Film Festival is the largest short film festival in the north of england.

In the field of classical music, Hull is home to Hull Sinfonietta, the largest professional chamber ensemble in the Humber region, and also the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the oldest amateur orchestras in the country. The Hull Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, established in 1952, the Hull Choral Union, the Hull Bach Choir – which specialises in the performance of 17th and 18th century choral music, the Hull Male Voice Choir, the Arterian Singers and two Gilbert & Sullivan Societies: the Dagger Lane Operatic Society and the Hull Savoyards are also based in Hull. There are two brass bands, the East Yorkshire Motor Services Band, who are the current North of England Area Brass Band Champions, and East Riding of Yorkshire Band.

We have Time based arts, the ARC, Hull dance, artlink, Hull fair and Hull screen. We are home to the Northern Acadamy of Performing Arts, the Drama school and the art collection at Hull University.

We have the fish trail, the ale trail and the ghost walks. We have John Godber (amongst the most widely read playwrights of the twentieth century), the Paddingtons and the Hull music collective. We have a fine collection of Victorian parks, a well preserved cobbled old town with some of the best pubs in the country, a rejuvanated waterfront and form part of the biggest and busiest ports complex in the country – the Hull and Humber Ports City Region.

Some of the most renowned poets and writers in the English Language have had close links with the city. Philip Larkin, Andrew Motion, Stevie Smith, Andrew Marvell, Alan Plater, Roger Mcgough, Douglas Dunn and numerous others have all either lived in or were born in the city.

In Sporting terms, Hull hosts Premier League football, Super League Rugby and Elite league Ice hockey.

As a historic port, the city has trading and cultural links with Northern Europe stretching back to medieval times. At it’s peak in Edwardian times, the city had 7 miles of dockland (the same as Liverpool) and was a national centre of flourmilling, tanning, wool imports, shipbuilding, timber imports as well as hundreds and hundreds of other major industries, whilst developing during the early twentieth century the world’s first and largest industrial trawling fleet.

P&O Ferries operate super-ferry (until recently the largest in the world) links with continental Europe, with overnight crossings from Rotterdam and Zeebrugge, but European influence has shaped the city since it’s founding. The architecture of the city is notable for it’s Dutch and Flemish stylings. Alongside the grand civic buildings and statuary of the Georgian and Victorian New Town, the Old Town contains historic inns, industrial heritage warehouses and grand private merchant’s houses. On the narrow cobbled High Street of the old town which runs along the river hull you can almost picture yourself in the Pirates of the caribbean world.

Hull would be a great centre for the world cup. The home of Amy Johnson who flew the world, the departure for Robinson Crusoe who sailed the fictional world. Serious in their support for Hull would make a great venue for the fans and provide plenty of neighbouring rural areas to give competeing teams the privacy they may require.
Bring it on. Could to 2018 be the year of the TIGER

I’d choose Hull as I don’t think we should have both Newcastle and Sunderland. The only downside to the bid is that they may not be a Premiership team by then and their won’t be the demand for a bigger capacity stadium.

i dont think, and don’t particularly want it to go to hull, ive been there and all i wanted to do was get out.

  5. Matty

hull deserves the world cup its getting a lot better and the city will benefit even more from it.

Reading the Hull daily mail today(8/9/09), Hull would be a amazing place for a venue for the would cup games. Hull as a city has so much to offer like the kc stadium which will be 44,000 seater, the great transport to the stadium, space all over the city for big screens, hotels, theaters, shopping, restaurants, parks and leisure centres for children. We have history and local attractions like the deep, marina, william wilberforce house now a museum, the guild hall, the old town and so much more. Hull is in a stones throw away from lovely beaches like hornsea, withernsea and bridlington. Hull as a city loves football and all we need is that chance to show the world, what hull can offer them.
